Discussion

The spit was excavated to define the western edge of ditch 012AD08467. It was demonstrated to turn from an east-west to a north-south alignment at this point. The material removed was a sandy loam (Munsell 10YR 4/3 to 10YR 4/4) with 5-10% chalk inclusions. No daub or charcoal fleckinf was noted. The pottery found was exclusively later Roman in date.
